Watchlist for January 27th

DEAR – This should have been on last night’s watchlist as a potential long. Recently there have been several supernovae that were up on news of some sort, dropped for a couple days, and then spiked again. NLST did that in mid-November while SEED did that in early December. DEAR could continue to move tomorrow.

dear

AAC – This would be a potential short but for the weird reverse-merger liquidation news. No play either way.

aac

TSCM – The chart and news says short, but this company has been beaten down for so long, trading for less than NCAV, that I don’t want to short.

Trade recap for January 25th

[Edit 1/28/2010:  I was wrong about Lightspeed being self-clearing. They clear through Penson normally but can also clear through Goldman Sachs Execution & Clearing (GSEC). Please see my updated post on How to Borrow Shares to Short with info on Lightspeed.]

Watchlist for Monday

DEAR, HAFC – Both are beaten down banks that spiked and had a first down day on Friday. Expect them to drop more but there is no easy play.

IDN – I like this as a long squeeze play if it can hold $3.00 tomorrow. That being said, if it fails $3 it will likely drop far. It is unlikely that I will trade it either way.

Q&A: Saturday morning mailbag

In the video I answer the following questions:

1. How does one interpret the cumulative size and average price on Interactive Brokers’ Market Depth?
2. How do you find pumps and is it a good strategy?
(Note: I will not answer any more questions on this topic because besides being ethically dubious, buying pumps is the riskiest kind of trade I have done and I do not recommend it.)

Please use the contact form to send me questions that I will answer in the next Q&A video.

Watchlist for January 22nd

The massacre on the Street today killed most potential setups. Almost all the 8%+ gainers today were small banks that do not interest me.

HAFC – I’m still short-biased.

Q&A: OTC Level 2, scanning for volume spikes, & more!

Watch the video for my answers to these questions.

1. Where can I go to get good OTC level 2?
2. How can I scan for stocks getting volume spikes?
3. Where do you get the live news that I have seen on your trade recaps?
4. How do I scan for OTC stocks I’m looking to buy to hold overnight? I should add the caveat that this strategy has lost me money and is very risky. I don’t see why I get so many questions about one of my worst trading strategies.
5. How do I determine which stocks to trade on non-OTC stocks?
