Trade recap for March 17th and March 18th

Stress from other things and a painful (but not huge) drawdown from my super-secret trading strategy have led me to be too risk averse and I have skipped out on several trades that would have been good such as on HMNA. I begin the video with a short rant against people who trade based on what their understanding of how important news is when they are far from experts in the field (particularly with biotechs).

Watchlist for March 18th

MSEH – ALFSS. This pump may have a few days or a week left, but ALFSS.

mseh

HMNA – On the verge of being delisted and it goes up 150%? I like it as a potential short.

hmna

MGIC – This did not run up on earnings back in February but runs big on a couple fluffy press releases now? Potential short.

Watchlist for Saint Patrick’s Day

BTIM – It’s Biotime! Nice run today on drug news and it held up all day. Potential long for continuation tomorrow.

btim

AMOK – Dead pump … sadly wasted as it has been on the Reg SHO Threshold list the whole time. Actually there could be more life to the pump but I wouldn’t even bet your money on it.

amok

AENY – In perpetual “almost cracking” mode.

Trade recap for the Ides of March: The return of the suck & buying some pumpish stocks

Not a good day thanks to IPCI. It was made less bad by a couple ‘pumpish’ stocks I bought. In the video I talk about a couple “pumpish” OTC stocks that I am holding overnight that were mentioned by “InvestorsLive” in the InvestorsUnderground chat room. If you wish to try InvestorsUnderground out they have a two week free trial and if you stick with it you can save up to 15% by using my link and promotional code “reaper”.

Daily profit: ($2,122.56)

Trades at IB:
+    BOT    2,000    IPCI    false    Stock    3.493    USD    SMART    11:25:00        10.00

Update on trading like Tim Sykes: $132,000 in total profits

As you should know, I first started following Tim Sykes back in May 2008. Since that time I have bought many of his DVDs (and I heartily recommend Pennystocking Part Deux and TimFundamentals Part Deux). Below is an updated chart of my performance. As you may notice, I have become more consistent since August of 2009. Large trades with large profits, like the $7,000 I made on ECOB, continue to constitute a bulk of my total profits. While I have scalped some of Tim Sykes’ trades he alerts, I have lost money doing that in 2010. For 2010, I have made $14,291.69 on my own trades (weighted average profit of 1.46%) and $9,128.46 when following a TimAlert (weighted average profit of 1.78%). Of course, most of the time I have traded based on TimAlerts I was already watching the stock and looking to trade it anyway (such as my recent trades on ZANE).

I own many of Sykes’ DVDs and I am a lifetime subscriber to his TimAlerts trade alerts service and I have a subscription to his PennyStocking Silver service. Watchlist for March 15th

IPCI – You know it and love it. Unfortunately, with their settlement sealed, there is no way to tell how good Friday’s news was. Potential long or short.

ipci

ZOLT – Nice big move Friday on good volume on no news. Potential long, but I am not enthusiastic.

zolt

CBEH – Nice breakout on earnings.

Q&A: Saturday morning mailbag

Questions I answer:

1. Why did you choose SogoElite rather than Sogotrade? (I don’t actually answer this; rather, I berate the questioner for not looking up the obvious differences between the two. Actually, there is one important difference that is not obvious: SogoElite allows for shorting stocks under $3, while SogoTrade does not.)
2. What kind of returns (percentage-wise) can a trader expect to make trading like me or Tim Sykes?
3. Do you have a Stockfetcher scan for the potential pumps you buy? Answer: No.
4. What does the decreasing volume in pump & dump AENY mean? Does that mean it will go lower?

Video #2:

1. What do you mean by ‘fluffy’ news?
2. Isn’t fading volume correlated with positive price action on ‘real’ stocks that have run up a bunch? Answer: I really have no clue; because of this I do not address it in the video. I am not convinced that fading volume is necessarily a sign that a stock will do anything, unless it is a true pump & dump.
